MALAWI MISSION UPDATE (Day 2)

Malawi Mission June 24, 2013

The team visited the Chinsapo neighborhood in Malawi for a two-part ministry. The True Love Waits team went to a small Baptist church to present their teaching material.  The rest went out with interpreters in small groups into the neighborhoods to meet people and share the Gospel.  The True Love Waits program was quite well attended.  There were about 25 young people present, average age about 24 years old.  Attendance varied over the morning, and was as high as 32 at one point.  Our team was AWESOME.  With both Stephen and Jessica Souther taking part, Hunter, Hanna, Haley, did a great job of explaining the importance of setting our standards of personal purity according to scripture.  And Samuel gave the invitation at the end.  Kodak moment: as he presented the Gospel using the Roman Road, with verses read by his interpreter, he asked them to turn to John 3:16; in unison, all the Malawian youth quoted the verse in Chichewa.

The neighborhood teams met many people and had several chances to share the Gospel.  Sheila Arnold helped a woman plaster her wall, and she was touched that her visitor would do more than just sit & talk.  In the afternoon they were joined by the youth from the True Love Waits program for more neighborhood evangelism.

The afternoon went similarly, with the Southers and I presenting a “True Love is Faithful” program for couples with some 20 people attending.  During a question and answer session Stephen handled questions and offered some views on divorce, with input from Jessica.  He was quite remarkable.  I presented material on dealing with temptation.

It was a very fruitful day, and all returned tired but in high spirits for all that had happened.  After dinner and craft prep for VBS, and a brief devotional, we all turned in for an early morning (breakfast to be at 6:30 am).

Parents, your children did you proud!
