MALAWI MISSION UPDATE (Day 5)

Malawi Mission June 27, 2013

Today we had breakfast at the Lawrences' home once again and then headed out to Lake Malawi.  The team has worked hard everyday, and this is a little break before we return home.  Along the way we stopped at an area with many small shops of vendors selling wood carvings.  The team shopped for an hour or so, finding their souvenirs for friends and family, or for their own memories.  We then drove to the Lake, in an area known as Livingstonia (named in honor of David Livingstone).  There is a resort hotel where we can enjoy the beach, gaze at the lake, and take a pleasant lunch of ground beef burgers, ground chicken burgers, or the lake fish known as “chambo”.  In the past we have done an overnight stay, but there was not time during this trip.

We then made our way back to Lilongwe, had a nice dinner of Indian-style food prepared by our hosts, and went back to the guest house for the evening.  I also settled accounts with Janet Lawrence.

It has been a wonderful mission trip once again.  And the Lawrences gave many helpful ideas for a trip next year: they are leaving Malawi, and there is no host missionary for next year.  I will be exploring a way to work with our Malawi friends on the Church Planting and Evangelism Team to put together a trip for next year.

We depart for home tomorrow and should arrive in Norfolk Saturday evening.  This will be my last update for this year’s mission to Malawi.
